Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, demons, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the city.

Warning: Revealing details for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the team enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This means them little choice but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Questers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can expect finding out which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
